No Responsibility for Increased Cost of Legacy, Sierra Club Says

My blood is boiling again. I just watched a segment on KSL News about the increased cost of the Legacy Parkway because of delays to the project, primarily from the Sierra Club lawsuit. And, of course, the Sierra Club responds by saying the delay is because UDOT forged ahead on the project without doing the environmental work adequately.

The Sierra Club's Mark Heilson goes on to say that going to court is a last resort for the Sierra Club, they "don't want to do that" (hah!), and that's why they have proposed the "Smart Growth" alternative -- Redwood Road.

Read between the lines to what Heilson just said -- essentially, if UDOT doesn't accept the Redwood Road alternative, they will sue again because they say that's the "right" answer -- their answer. Not the community's, not the planners and engineers, not the elected officials, but the Sierra Club's answer, that's the only right one, the "Smart" one.

You can also read about this issue in this morning's Standard Examiner. The story says, "Heilson added that if UDOT hadn't ignored Sierra Club concerns about construction of the road, the lawsuit would not have been necessary."

What he's really saying is, if you don't do what we want, what we say is right, we'll sue you again, and stop the project. Because that's what this is all about, not protecting the environment, not meeting the transportation needs of the residents of northern Utah. Its about winning and stopping construction of the Legacy, no matter what. How will this end, unless the courts see through this ruse and say enough is enough?

If the Sierra Club isn't responsible for the delay of Legacy then who is?
1. No suit filed.
2. No delay in the highway.
3. Highway built on time at or near original cost estimates.
4. Light rail and additional transit options are completed earlier due to available funds and manpower!

I challenge anyone from the Sierra Club or Utahns for Better Transportation to dispute that.

Your organizations' lawsuit was the catalyst for a delay that COST taxpayers millions of dollars, which if it had never happened, would have SAVED millions of dollars. That is a fact. And now that the highway has been through the planning process AGAIN, either meet with the communities and the citizens, present your ideas and be open about things, or step aside.

The Rocky Anderson, or should I say Ross Anderson attitude is so hypocritical and condescending that I can't believe anybody takes him seriously. I would like to have the chance to meet him on the street or in his office to simply ask, "Why are you so bitter? Please, just tell us what it is that makes you so bitter?" An article I read recently really explains what I consider the typical Rocky attitude. http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/005/230yswkg.asp
I think Rocky would be likely to outlaw backyards, guns, hunting, roads, free enterprise, traditional marriage, as well as many other things if he could. The biggest problem is that he wants to ban good things such as those mentioned above. He also has tried to ban things which aren't so good, such as smoking, but at just as much of a threat to our liberty.

I reside in SLC and did not vote for the idiot wanabee Utah Governor in city hall and I think it really sucks that the majority of the citizens of this great state have to be affected by an elected ACLU lyer (I mean lawyer) or (if you want to call him that) Mayor and all his freaky clones.
Where I work and where I live are separated by about 2 blocks so I don't have to worry about travel nightmares and I think living and working in the same community make more sense than anything but I also realise that my priorities and opinions are'nt the same as others. I don't think the legacy highway is going to kill every bird on the planet and I don't think the Redwood RD alternative is going bring world peace either.
The Sierra Club is ran by a bunch of rich people that are out of touch and have little or no empathy for the common citizen.
But hey, they know what's best for us and that is why they are "not resonsible for the increased cost of the legacy".
